Bread pudding is not native to India however we've somehow included it as a part of our cuisine. This could be attributed to the British rule in India. Bread pudding can be served chilled or warm and can contain a whiskey or rum based sauce (The recipe I have put down doesn't contain any alcohol). I do hope you enjoy making this yummy desert or for some folks a sweet snack.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups whole milk (or 2 cups 1 skimmed & 1 Full Fat)
- 1/4 cup butter
- 2/3 cup sugar
- 3 eggs
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon or 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon brandy
- 3 cups bread, torn into small pieces or finely ground
- 1/2 cup raisins & nuts (optional)
Procedure:
Step 1: Use a medium saucepan, over medium heat
Step 2 : Heat milk (or half & half) just until film forms over top.
Step 3: Combine butter and milk, stirring until butter is melted. Cool to lukewarm.
Step 4: Whip the eggs, sugar, cinnamon, (nutmeg), and vanilla with an electric mixer at medium speed for 2 minute until it becomes fluffy.
Step 5: Slowly add milk and beat mixture
Step 6: Slowly add the bread and keep folding it with a spatula.
Step 7: Sprinkle with raisins and nuts if desired.
Step 8: Pour batter in the baking dish.
Step 9: Bake at 350 degrees F for 45 to 50 minutes or until set.
Step10: Serve warm or chilled
You can add a chocolate syrup or honey when swerving but be conservative with the serving :)
